Moccamaster KBGV Select

What we read adds up to this: buy it if you drink plain drip coffee every day and want one machine for years. Not if you want a timer.

How this was written

We have not touched one. Everything here is what other people report, and each of them is named and linked below. We picked it because people call it a machine you keep for years, and that is the question this site exists to ask.

The good

  • Reviewers like the cup.Reviewed's kitchen editor says it has been their winner for several years and the best-tasting drip coffee they have had. NBC's reviewer calls it a solid choice for people serious about coffee. Taste of Home's reviewer says it has a permanent place on the counter.
  • It is quick.NBC's reviewer got a full 10 cups in about six minutes, and Homegrounds timed just under six.
  • It seems to last. The best long-term voice we found is Home Cook Basics, still using theirs every day after three years. They thought the carafe looked flimsy at first and say it turned out tough. That is one person, not a test. The maker gives a 5-year warranty and says it will repair the machine for life.

The catch

  • The price.$369 the day we looked. NBC's reviewer called the price jarring, and Coffee Slang's says it costs real money.
  • No timer, no settings.Reviewed and Homegrounds both say so. You cannot set it up the night before.
  • More plastic than the price suggests.Taste of Home notes that the brew basket is hard plastic, and Coffee Slang says it stops short of a plastic-free build.
  • It gathers dust. The biggest complaint from Taste of Home's reviewer: the exposed parts need a wipe now and then.
  • The reports disagree on filters.Reviewed's video says it needs proprietary filters. Seattle Coffee Gear's guide says standard #4 cone filters, and the maker sells #4 filters in a bundle. We lean to #4, and we have not tried one.

Who said so, and what to weigh

Not in this: Wirecutter and Reddit would not open for us, so nothing here comes from them, or from any owners' forum.
